We are happy to announce the release of our new backup and business continuity service RecoveryPoint. RecoveryPoint protects your data, your servers, and your business and can:

  1. Recover lost files in minutes
  2. Recover a failed server in 2-4 hours
  3. Give you remote access to your data and applications within 24-48 hours of a disaster that destroys your office

The great thing about this service is that in the event of a disaster or a server failure we will be able to have critical programs up and running in a fraction of the time it would take using conventional tape or remote data backup services.

Did you know that 50% of small to mid-sized businesses will go out of business within three years if they can’t get their data back within 24 hours? (Gartner)

When you lose a file this service is a huge convenience, but when disaster strikes it’s a life preserver.

A while ago on this blog we covered Drop.io a site that makes sharing files online really easy (click here to see this post), well now Drop.io has created two new online applications which makes the Drop.io site even better.

Conference.io – Conference.io allows you to set up a file sharing group chat really easily. All you have to do is enter a URL in the Choose drop name box, upload any files you want to share on the chat, and then click create drop. Then you can just send the link to anyone you want to be able to download your files and join the chat. No registration required!

When users go to your Conference.io page they will be able to see the files available for download and be able to chat with other users in real time.

Just like any normal Drop.io page you can:

  • Set a password for your page if you like
  • Choose how long until your page expires
  • Choose whether to give guests the ability to upload files too.

To visit Conference.io click here

Playlist.io – Playlist.io allows you create playlists by uploading MP3 files. It works pretty much the same as any other Drop.io page, just create a Drop.io URL and upload your MP3 files. Then whenever you want to listen to your playlist you can just go to your Drop.io page. Here’s a video demonstration.

At LANcom we only offer 6 hour call to repair warranties for fourth and fifth year servers. This is because the 6 hour CTR warranty is the only warranty that commits to having replacement parts within an agreed amount of time.

Other warranties only commit to a response, not a resolution. This means that while someone may turn up within 4 hours the parts may take days to arrive.

It is particularly important to have the six hour call to repair warranty for older servers as HP houses parts for theses servers out of Singapore, which means a 10 day wait or longer is possible. If a possible 10-14 day wait is acceptable to you then we may consider other warranties, but in most situations this is not the case.

Each year, as more of HP’s support functions get outsourced, field support gets thinner and thinner so it is becoming more and more essential to have a warranty with a recovery commitment like the 6 hour call to repair

We have investigated the two other major server vendors in NZ – IBM and Dell - and all their warranties are best-endeavour subject to parts availability. So the 6 hr CTR stands out and is the principal reason we supply HP.

If business continuity is important to you, you may also want to consider a business recovery product such as RecoveryPoint click here to learn more.
